D-NH seeks new board members

Two Dike-New Hartford Board of Education members have announced they will not seek re-election this November. Melissa Hinde and Jerry Nielsen will both step down from the board after the community selects two new board members on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

There will be vacancies for the board’s District 2 and at-large seats.

“We would like to sincerely thank Melissa and Jerry for their service and dedication to the Dike-New Hartford Community School District over the past several years,” said Justin Stockdale, superintendent. “Serving on the board often requires a significant commitment of time and effort, and these two community members have played an important role in forging a bright future for our children. Our entire community thanks them for their contributions.”

Per Iowa state law, school board members serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd-numbered years. Community members interested in running for the board can pick up nomination papers at the DNH Administration Office or by contacting Board Secretary Julie Merfeld at julie.merfeld@ dnhcsd.org.

Board candidates must get the signatures of at least 31 qualified voters who live within the Dike-New Hartford Community School District. The deadline to submit nomination papers for the November ballot is Thursday, September 19. The DNH Board of Education meets once per month, typically on the third Monday of the month. Meetings take place at the District Office, located at 330 Main St. in Dike. More information on the board, including past agendas and minutes, is available at https://dnhcsd.org/schoolboard.
