Kids against hunger: Local youth package over 7,000 meals for those in need

More than sixty kids from around the area gathered at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center last week to package up over 7,000 meals for those in need.
For the last several years, the church has hosted a Kids Against Hunger food packing event where local youth from grades 6 through 12 gather to pack meals for those in need across the globe.
Kids Against Hunger is a non-profit organization that provides meals for malnourished children and families around the world. This is done with the help of partners around the country, who purchase supplies and gather volunteers to package the meals, which are then sent off to feed people around the globe.
Over the span of a couple of hours the kids packed 7,200 meals - at a price of 25 cents per meal - to be shipped off to disaster areas, refugee camps and other areas for those in need.
“Serving our neighbors is one of the most important things in life and the foundation of being a Christian, and this is a great way for the kids to learn about helping others while having fun,” said Pastor Luther Thoresen of the American Lutheran Church.
